In a repeat of last year, the Washington legislature held a hearing this week on the misnamed "Washington Voting Rights Act," which would essentially require racial profiling in elections.

As I wrote last year, this bill is modeled on a California law that has had disastrous results on school districts, with very little to show for it. Worst of all, it puts the issue of race squarely back into the middle of elections, after a century of work by Americans to make elections colorblind.
