The Voting Rights Act (aka the Election Manipulation Act) is back

In a repeat of last year, the Washington legislature held a hearing this week on the misnamed "Washington Voting Rights Act," which would essentially require racial profiling in elections.

Trent England, our Executive Vice President, testified on HB 1413 this past week when it came up before the House Government Operations and Elections Committee. You can watch his comments on the TVW feed.

As I wrote last year, this bill is modeled on a California law that has had disastrous results on school districts, with very little to show for it. Worst of all, it puts the issue of race squarely back into the middle of elections, after a century of work by Americans to make elections colorblind.
